Using Exogen®

Easy to use in the comfort of your own home

Treatment involves placing the ultrasound probe on your skin at the site of your injury conveniently fastened by a retainer band. Your consultant can advise you exactly where the ultrasound disc should be placed during your ultrasound treatment (in my case it was marked with a felt tip X). Ultrasound gel is provided in your rental pack, and is applied (a blob the size of a 1 pence piece uk or 2 cents europe) onto the ultrasound probe (also called a transducer) before placing against the skin.

The video clip below gives an excellent tutorial on how to use an Exogen® machine.

Use the ultrasound machine for only 20 minutes a day from a few weeks to several months, as indicated by your surgeon. The lightweight, portable EXOGEN® machine can be used at a time of day to suit you and can even be taken away on holiday.

EXOGEN® Faster Bone Healing 38% faster for new breaks & 86% healing of non-unions.

Approved by both the United Kingdom NICE & the United States FDA.

All rented EXOGEN® machines come with a strap to hold the ultrasonic transducer in position for the treatments. Some broken bones occur where it's not possible to wrap around eg. the collar bone (clavicle), and in these cases the EXOGEN® machine will require a weighted strap - please add to your shopping cart if you require one.

As long as the fracture is stable and the fracture gap is no more than 10mm, the Exogen® machine is an option in all cases for use by persons that are 18 years or older and skeletally mature, excluding skull and spine (vertebra) fractures.

EXOGEN® Ultrasound Bone Healing machines stimulate the body’s natural healing process, using safe, painless ultrasound waves to activate cells near the site of the break.

In USA
for extension to your rental period please see www.ultrasoundbonehealing.co.uk/shop-usa/rental-of-exogen-additional-month

5. I have health insurance cover can I claim the cost from them?

The cost of a latest models of single use Exogen® machines are Exogen®150 (£1500+VAT and 150 single daily treatments) Exogen®250 (£2562.50 +VAT and 250 single daily treatments). Your insurer may pay this, although you will probably need to pay an excess - contact your insurer for information. A new EXOGEN® machine although visually updated gives exactly the same treatment as the EXOGEN® machine which we offer for rent - as that treatment is what the NICE and FDA have approved. The excess for a new EXOGEN® machine maybe more than the cost of our rental EXOGEN® machines.

6. More Details About The Exogen® Machines We Offer For Rental

  • The Exogen® models that we offer for rental are reconditioned to as new condition.

  • Our Exogen® machines offer the same NICE & FDA approved ultrasound bone healing technology as a new Exogen® model.

  • Exogen® (originally made by Smith & Nephew and now made by Bioventus LLC) ultrasound bone healing devices seem to have always been sold as single treatment/user only.  Rather like a course of antibiotics where you take all the antibiotic medicine prescribed just for you.  So from the earliest Exogen® 2000 through to the Exogen® 4000 + and then to the latest model, Exogen® expected the patient to dispose of the ultrasound healing device when they were better or when the Exogen® model ran out of treatments.
